Species etymology

tri-, three; segment, segment. Possibly referring to the three thoracic segments and three pairs of pygidial pleural segments.

Diagnosis

Dorsal shield subovate apart from genal spines. Cephalon strongly convex, subtriangular; a pair of long genal spines from the genal angles; thorax of 3 segments, the first longitudinally longest; axis narrower than pleurae; pleurae straight. Pygidium small, basin-shaped; axis narrow, tapering posteriorly to the posterior margin, with 4 axial rings; pleural region with 3 pairs of ridge-like pleural segments; border narrow and upturned.

Remarks

This species is the type species of the genus Pseudampyxina. This genus closely resembles Taklamakania, the main difference being the absence of an anterior median cephalic spine.
