Remarks
Remark Phylogenetic analysis shows Regalerpeton and Chunerpeton form successive sister groups of extant Cryptobranchidae (Zhang et al., 2009), and this genus's vomerine tooth row morphology, pterygoid, and other typical features are all consistent with Cryptobranchidae, so this book assigns this genus to Cryptobranchidae. The genus name derives from its fossil locality Weichang, Hebei, once a royal hunting ground during the Qing Dynasty. Remark Species name from fossil locality Weichang. This species' scapulocoracoid morphology is quite special, very similar to hynobiids like Liaoxitriton, but quite different from Chunerpeton, which also belongs to Cryptobranchidae.
