Family
Hynobiidae
Genus
Laccotriton
Authority
Gao, Cheng et Xu, 1998
Original combination
Laccotriton subsolanus
Age
Early Cretaceous
Locality
Hebei, China
Diagnosis
Remark This genus is China's first named Mesozoic urodelan [Yang Zhongjian (1979b) mentioned an unnamed Mesozoic urodelan from Luanping, Hebei; see below], thus having important research significance. However, Gao Keqin et al. (1998) selected relatively brief diagnostic features when establishing this genus and species. Gao and Shubin (2001) later supplemented and revised some features. Laccotriton's maxillary arch and nasal are well-developed, representing a small metamorphosed crown-group urodelan.

(1998) named Laccotriton subsolanus based on four skeletal fossils. One specimen [(GMC) GMV 1602] was designated as holotype, with three others [(GMC) GMV 1603-1605] as referred specimens. However, according to ICZN Article 72.4.5, referred specimens published in the same paper should also belong to the type series, and specimens in the type series other than the holotype should be paratypes. Therefore, this book changes these three specimens from referred specimens as originally designated to paratypes. Additionally, according to the naming authors, the original paper due to editorial error
