Diagnosis

A small proparian trilobite. Dorsal shield long- to broad-elliptical, rounded in outline, flattened. Cephalon semicircular; glabella wide and long, subcylindrical, slightly constricted forward with rounded front, glabellar furrows undeveloped; dorsal furrows extremely shallow; occipital ring with a median occipital node; occipital furrow shallow; posterior wings wide and large; palpebral lobes medium, crescentic, close to the glabella; proparian facial sutures. Thorax of 10-12 segments; pleurae with wide shallow pleural furrows and distinct interpleural furrows; pleurae arcuate, gradually shortening and oblique backward. Pygidium small, subtrapezoidal, with a distinct depression in the mid-posterior part.

Remarks

Burlingia balangensis is the oldest known species of Burlingia, and its discovery indicates that the genus originated in South China.
