Diagnosis
Small trilobite, opisthoparian, isopygous. Cranidium pentagonal; Glabella broadly oval, four pairs of short glabellar furrows, S1-S3 not connected to the dorsal furrow; Fixed cheek broad; Palpebral lobe and eye ridge subequal in length; Free cheek narrow, genal spines long. Thorax of 4 segments; Axis and pleural region subequal in width; Pleural furrow broad and deep, with articulating facets, pleural spines very short. Pygidium semicircular; Pygidial axis composed of four rings and a terminal segment; pleurae with pleural and interpleural furrows; pygidial border with five pairs of small serrated marginal spines.

This species is the type species of Metabalangia.
