Diagnosis
Dorsal shield ovate, cephalon and pygidium semicircular, the pygidium larger than the cephalon. Glabella long, cylindrical, inflated anteriorly; preglabellar field short or absent; eyes large, close to the glabella; librigenae wide with medium-length genal spines. Thorax of 8 segments, axis narrow and of uniform width; pleurae wide with deep pleural furrows and short pleural spines. Pygidial axis narrow, tapering sharply medially, reaching the border; pleural and interpleural furrows distinct; border wide.
Remarks
Ogygiocarella debuchii is the first trilobite published in a scientific journal; initially regarded as a fossil flatfish, it was published by Dr. Edward Lhwyd in 1698.
